Our Story: Serving the Former Soviet Union with God's Grace

AREWF was formed in 2019 in order to help organize a growing need for ministry work in the former Soviet Union built upon more than 20 years of previous service in that part of the world. The Musser family first moved to Mogilev, Belarus in 1995 and worked with Village Ministries International. Mark and Caren then worked directly with James F. Myers Ministries in Kyiv, Ukraine from 1998-2004 before returning stateside to plant a new church in Olympia, Washington called Grace Redeemer Bible Church.

Mark was the pastor of Grace Redeemer Bible Church for 14 years, but still often traveled back and forth to Ukraine and other former Soviet countries to do mission work usually 2-3 times each year. Beginning in 2013, Grace Redeemer Bible Church also began working with Discipleship Makers Multiplied (DM2), which led to even more open doors into the former Soviet Union. By 2018, the mission work had grown to the point where it was time to return to the mission field, and with Andy Stacy recently graduating from the Grace School of Theology, being a parishioner of the church he was able to seamlessly take over the pulpit of Grace Redeemer to help facilitate such a big change.

When the Mussers returned to the field they first moved to Armenia, another former Soviet country in which they spent three very good years there. While Caren taught at Yerevan International School, Mark used the capital city of Armenia as his home base to do mission work both within the country and abroad into other former Soviet countries. Yerevan was a great place from which to work from, not only to deepen the ministry in other former Soviet countries so much closer now than from America, but also to open up new ministries into another brand new country as well.

The Mussers were planning on moving back to Ukraine in the summer of 2022, but with the war situation, it is not known if that is a possibility at this time.
